All pets can tank quite well, even offensive pets.
As a MM hunter you also want offensive pets since those are better at building up hate.
I always go with a
dps oriented pet, no matter what spec I currently have. But that is because I really like doing damage and I really do not want to step back while doing solo content (like farming). So a pet which can generate hate faster is the better pet for me.
And please don't connect the words survival and melee, it makes me feel bad.

SURVIVAL DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN MELEE!
YOU ARE STILL SHOOTING, NOT FIGHTING UP CLOSE.

I recently made an Orc Hunter alt, currently lvl 19 with a stingtail scorpid as a pet, which I enjoy so far. I am planning on going mostly survival spec, i know it's not
a popular spec, but frankly i hate popular specs. It seems logically defensive pets would work best for best for beast mastery and markmanship specs, due to their ability to but i was thinking maybe a more dps oriented pet would be better for survival, as it allows more .. room for error in the melee realm. Just a thought, any ideas?
